Disturbance of the gut microbes influences the progression of chronic inflammatory diseases, including atherosclerosis. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid. However, current studies mainly focus on relationship between tryptophan metabolism and mental health. This study investigated the effect of tryptophan metabolite, Indole-3-carboxaldehyde, and atherosclerosis and related mechanism. We believe that our study makes a significant contribution to the literature because it revealed that high fat diet decreased indole-3-carboxaldehyde plasma concentration, which help maintain endothelial cells function through AhR-Nrf2-HO-1 pathway; reduce atherosclerotic plaques.
