Clavibacter nebraskensis is a bacterial pathogen that causes Goss wilt and leafblight disease in maize. Since its reemergence in the mid 2000s GWLB hasspread to mid western states in the corn belt as well as prairie regions of Canada andcaused significant yield losses in maize production. Based on the initial virulence assays, a fewstrains were selected, including avirulent, weakly virulent, moderately virulent, andhighly virulent strains of Clavibacter nebraskensis, for PacBio sequencing and performing comparativegenomics. Whole-genome sequencing will allow the identification of differences in genomestructure and the prediction and testing of predictions of the genes involved in pathogenicity.
