Bouteloua dactyloides (buffalograss) chromosome-scale genome assembly and annotation

Bouteloua dactyloides is a dioecious and warm season grass native to the central plains of North America. It is know for drought tolerance that has contributed to its application as a low-maintenance turfgrass in arid regions. Here, we use PacBio CLR and Omni-C proximity ligation technologies to sequence and assemble the chromosomes of buffalograss. In addition, we sequence RNAs from a variety of tissue types to help guide ab initio gene prediction and annotation. We expect that these chromosome-scale resources will be useful for turfgrass breeders to guide marker development and evolutionary biologist to study dioecy.
