Abundance of Insects within Grasslands (Stong Pond) and Woodlot (Saywell) of York University

This investigation took place on Monday September 28, 2015 at 3:00 pm to 5:00pm within the Grasslands (Stong Pond) and Woodlot (Saywell) of York University. The weather conditions were of slight breeze, cloudy, and at a temperature of 21 ° Celsius. The objective of this study was to record abundance of insects within the Grasslands (Stong Pond) and Woodlot (Saywell) and compare the densities. A 1-meter by 1-meter quadrat was systematically placed six steps away from the last and was observed for a total of 3 minutes each. This was performed 10 times in the Grasslands (Stong Pond) habitat and 10 times in the Woodlot (Saywell) habitat. After each replication, data was collected within the 1-meter by 1-meter quadrat included; the habitat the data was collected in, abundance of insects found in that 1-meter by 1-meter quadrat, recognizable taxonomic units (RTUs) which include the richness of species, and the frequency of different insects.
