In nature, the transcriptional-Activator Like Effector (TALE) can be synthesized and secreted by Xanthomonas, a Gram-negative bacterium, into host cells for activation of targeted genes. Artificial designer TALEs (dTALEs) were constructed to specifically activate the gl3 gene, a MYB transcription factor involved in the cuticular wax biosynthesis, through the maize pathogen, Xanthomonas vasicola pv. vasculorum. RNA sequencing was performed to examine which genes were regulated by gl3.
