In this work a phenotypic screening over a cohort of clinical Candida glabrata isolates was undertaken leading to the identification of an isolate, named FFUL887, which was recovered from the urinary tract and that was found to be resistant to both fluconazole and voriconazole. To better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the azole-resistance phenotype of the FFUL887 strain its genome sequence was obtained, annotated and compared with the one of the reference strain CBS138, susceptible to the two above mentioned azoles and having an intestinal origin. Besides providing clues to mechanisms underlying acquisition of azole resistance inside the host, our results also provide insights into the different responses evolved by C. glabrata in the colonization of different niches.
