This metadata entry refers to measurements of oceanic DMSO, DMS and DMSP made by Angela Hatton; methane and nitrous oxide made by Nick Owens; carbon dioxide made by Susan Knox and Carol Robinson and ammonium made by Stuart Gibb and Malcolm Woodward during the Discovery 210 research cruise in the Arabian Sea as part of the ARABESQUE project. The cruise began on 25th August 1994 and ended on 5th October 1994 with a spatial coverage of +8N to +26N latitude and +57E to +67E longitude. The data consists of: -229 measurements of the concentration dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) per unit volume of the water column by enzyme digestion, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography; -230 measurements of the concentration dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMSP) per unit volume of the water column by Millipore prefiltration and gas chromatography; -227 measurements of the concentration of dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMSP) per unit volume of the water column by Millipore prefiltration and gas chromatography; and -231 measurements of the concentration of dimethyl sulphide (DMS) per unit volume of the water column by Millipore prefiltration purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography. -457 measurements of the concentration of methane (CH4) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate phase) by gas chromatography; and -457 measurements of the saturation of methane (CH4) in the water column (dissolved phase) by computation from concentration. -457 measurements of the concentration of nitrous oxide (N2O) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate phase) by gas chromatography; and -457 measurements of the saturation of nitrous oxide (N2O) in the water column by gas chromatography and computation from concentration -395 measurements of the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) in the water column by shower-head equilibrium with air and gas chromatography and Takahashi correction to in-situ temperature; -248 measurements of the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) in the water column by shower-head equilibrium with air and gas chromatography and Turner correction to in-situ temperature; and -416 measurements of the concentration of carbon (total inorganic) (TCO2) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate phase) by coulometry. -745 measurements of the concentration of ammonium (NH4) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate phase) by colorimetric See below for further details.
