RADSAGA/R2E CERN

RADSAGA (Radiation reliability challenges for electronics to be used in Space, Avionics, Ground and Accelerators) is a program involving 15 PhD students all around Europe. The goal is to assess radiation effects on electronics, mainly on new technology devices, electronic boards and full systems. The ChipIR beamiline at ISIS represents a valuable opportunity for fulfilling the goals of RADSAGA, thanks to the possible applications related to the spallation neutron source typical of atmospheric and ground environments, as well as accelerator. The main objectives of the tests will be to understand the effects of atmospheric neutrons as opposed to thermal neutrons, the comparability of neutron effects with proton effects for many different radiative effects, the impact of neutrons on new technologies not based on Silicon and the combined effects of radiation and electrical aging.
