In the current study, two Cu(II)-based coordination polymers with the molecular formula of {[Cu<sub>3</sub>(μ<sub>3</sub>-cpia)<sub>2</sub>(phen)<sub>3</sub>]·10H<sub>2</sub>O}<sub>n</sub> (<b>1</b>, H<sub>3</sub>cpia = 4-(6-carboxy-pyridin-3-yl)-isophthalic acid, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) and {[Cu<sub>4</sub>(μ<sub>4</sub>-cpia)<sub>2</sub>(μ-OH)<sub>2</sub>(μ-4,4′-bipy)<sub>2</sub>]·4,4′-bipy·2H<sub>2</sub>O}<sub>n</sub> (<b>2</b>, 4,4′-bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) have been successfully prepared by reaction of Cu(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>2</sub>·3H<sub>2</sub>O with the H<sub>3</sub>cpia in the presence of different N-donor ligands (phen for <b>1</b> and 4,4′-bipy for <b>2</b>). Furthermore, to evaluate the protective effect of compounds <b>1</b> and <b>2</b> against neonatal sepsis, the following experiments were conducted. First, the content of the C-reactive protein in the serum of the newborns after compound <b>1</b> or <b>2</b> treatment was measured with the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay detection kit at indicated time. Next, the inflammatory level during neonatal sepsis was detected by measuring the relative expression level of the <i>nf-κb</i> and <i>tnf-α</i> with real time RT-PCR.
