The goal of this study was to identify the underlying mechanisms of a growth genotype-by-environment interaction seen between transgenic and non-transgenic coho salmon in stream and environment environments. RNA-seq was used to measure gene transcription and WGBS was used to measure methylation. Genotype-by-environment interactions are important in furthering our understanding of the risks of transgenic salmon should they ever escape into the wild. This is important in light of the approval of the use of transgenic Atlantic salmon in North American markets.
