Comparative survival, growth performance, production performance and proximate of Penaeus monodon and Litopenaeus vannamei in optimized mixotrophic culture system

This study investigated the performance of Penaeus monodon and Penaeus vannamei in a 40-day mixotrophic culture system enriched with algae and probiotics. Shrimps were stocked at 3 PL/L in 12 ppt saline water, and the treatment tanks received daily Bacillus subtilis supplementation. Growth performance, water quality dynamics, and proximate composition were assessed. P. vannamei under treatment (T2) showed the highest survival, growth, and feed efficiency. Principal Component Analysis revealed key water quality parameters influencing shrimp performance. The mixotrophic system enhanced nutrient utilization and product quality, especially for P. vannamei, suggesting its suitability for sustainable aquaculture.
