Thomas Moore was an Irish poet, singer, composer, satirist, and one of the first champions of freedom for Ireland. With George Gordon, Lord Byron, and Sir Walter Scott, he embodied British Romanticism not only for the British and the Irish but also for Americans and Europeans. He is perhaps best remembered for writing the lyrics of "The Minstrel Boy" and "The Last Rose of Summer."
The Thomas Moore collection contains manuscripts and letters written by Moore. Recipients of the letters include Thomas Crofton Croker and 1st Earl John Russell Russell, who served twice as Great Britain's prime minister.
