The Actuation of Antônio Luis Cavalcanti de Albuquerque de Barros Barreto in the Sanitary Reform of Bahia (1924-1930)

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the professional trajectory of Antônio Luis Cavalcanti de Albuquerque de Barros Barreto, former Fellow of the Rockefeller Foundation and Inspector of the National Department of Public Health, in the Health Reform in Bahia, between 1924 and 1930. To understand this process, Reports and the doctor’s acceptance speech in the Sub-board of Health and Public Assistance, his card of Rockefeller, the memorial presented to the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, the Archivos Paranaenses de Medicina and the Archivos Brasileiros de Medicina are used. From the contextualization of sources, it was understood that the role played by Barros Barreto was fundamental for the alignment of the actions developed in the state, with the influence of the health movement’s ideals from the second decade of the twentieth century and of the Rockefeller Foundation.
