Here, we addressed cryptic species diversity problem in bioindicator diatom, Nitzschia palea, by analysing morphometric and transcriptome data from 10 N. palea strains to (i) resolve evolutionary relationships in this complex (ii) investigate hybridization by comparing different gene tree topologies (iii) construct a consensus species tree, an (iv) investigate possible morphological characters to delimit molecular based clades.
