Targeting Food and Livelihoods Assistance - 2016

In response to ongoing conflict in Mali, a significant number of refugees have sought asylum in neighboring Niger, settling primarily in the refugee camps of Tabareybarey and the hosting zones of Intikane. To better understand and meet the food security and livelihood needs of these communities, a comprehensive household survey was conducted between January and June 2016. This survey, jointly overseen by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the World Food Programme, aimed to cover all households within these sites. However, the nomadic tendencies of the Malian refugee population posed challenges to achieving complete census. Despite these difficulties, the data collected is pivotal for informing targeted food distribution, cash assistance, and livelihood programs aimed at fostering self-reliance and economic inclusion. The survey's findings are crucial for refining the aid strategies of both UNHCR and WFP and serve as a baseline for future interventions in the region.
