Abstract
Language evolves in response to cultural, technological, and scientific changes, and specialized vocabularies in sectors such as aerospace, medicine, and computer science serve as key indicators of such evolution. This paper proposes a semantic table model—a structured framework that deconstructs a term into its etymology, conceptual shifts, and structural changes—as a novel analytical tool for examining lexical evolution across three dynamic industrial domains. By applying the model to representative terms (e.g., “virtuality,” “diabetes mellitus,” “virtual reality”), we demonstrate its utility in clarifying how specialized vocabularies evolve and how these shifts mirror technological and cultural transformations. The model’s potential as both a pedagogical and research tool is discussed, along with implications for interdisciplinary training and industry communication.
