Parkes observations for project P682 semester 2014OCTS_BPSR_01

We request 35 hours to survey the Small Magellanic Cloud using the 20-cm multibeam receiver together with the recently developed Berkeley-Parkes-Swinburne data recorder. This survey represents up to an order of magnitude improvement in sensitivity for millisecond pulsars and short duration transient radio sources in the Small Magellanic Cloud and will allow us to place new constraints on the populations of these sources. If the proposed observations result in new discoveries, we intend to extend this survey to the Large Magellanic Cloud with the ultimate goal of studying the neutron star populations in these two external galaxies.
