Plasmids of Mycobacterium avium subsp. hominissuis

Plasmids are extrachromosomal DNA elements that replicate autonomously in the cell. Plasmids normally carry nonessential genes for host bacterium, but they can confer unique traits such as antimicrobial resistance on the host. Mycobacterium avium subsp. hominissuis (MAH) is an opportunistic human pathogen that can cause chronic lung disease. To date information about the diversity in plasmids of MAH remains lacking. To overcome this, this project determines complete genome sequences of MAH strains carrying plasmids from various isolation sources using long reads and short reads.
