Soil from Lekki conservation centre (Nigeria) were used in microcosms, spiked with chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin, then examined for dioxin biodegradation and shifts in bacterial community structure. Degradation of dioxin and subsequent dominance of certain bacterial community were implicated for the enhanced degradation of chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins in the microcosm study and highlight a potential of cleaning up chlorinated dioxins polluted sites and the dominant OTU used as a biomarker for dioxin polluted sites in the tropics.
