National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 2.1 (NHDplusV2)

The National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 2.1 (NHDplusV2) provides a national geospatial surface-water framework that is used by geospatial analysts and modelers to support their water resource applications. It is an enhanced version of NHDplusV1 produced by the U.S. EPA Office of Water in partnership with the U.S. Geological Survey. NHDplusV2 is an integrated suite of application-ready geospatial data products that integrates detailed hydrologic features such as streams, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and watersheds with attributes related to flow direction, flow accumulation, and watershed boundaries. It utilizes and extends the best features of the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), the National Elevation Dataset (NED), and the National Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD). The spatial resolution for NHD and NED have been improved to 1:100k and NED 30m, respectively. NHDplusV2 integrates additional attributes such as elevation, land use, and climate to enhance hydrological modeling, watershed analysis, flood forecasting, and water resource management. Improvements to catchment characteristics, headwater node areas, and cumulative drainage characteristics have been implemented along with advanced methods for estimating monthly and annual river and stream flow volumes and velocities. NHDplus2 is a vital resource for government agencies, decision makers, and researchers.
