Genetic structure of maize landraces from the Himalayan region

In this study, we conducted a Genomic sequencing and utilized SNP markers for characterization of Bhutanese maize landrace germplasm sourced from Bhutan National Gene Bank, USDA and CIMMYT gene Banks. We incorporated selected accessions from the neighboring Nepal and Indian-Himalaya to compare their genetic relationship. Further, we assessed the agronomic, and climatic diversity of Bhutanese germplasm using a Genome-wide association study.The evaluation and characterization of Bhutanese germplasm is described herein. These findings contribute to further utilization of this genetic resource in the development of new robust maize varieties that will play a significant role in ensuring food security in the face of a rapidly growing population and the climate crisis.
