Attraction of Telenomus remus to egg volatiles of Spodoptera litura and oviposition-induced plant volatiles from tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum)

We explored the behavioral responses of the egg parasitoid T. remus to volatiles emitted from various sources, including S. litura egg masses, healthy tobacco plants, tobacco plants naturally infested with S. litura eggs, and tobacco plants artificially inoculated with S. litura egg masses, as well as some chemicals from the four sources identified by GC-MS under laboratory conditions. Our findings indicate that volatiles from S. litura egg masses and tobacco plants naturally infested with S. litura eggs are attractive to T. remus. Additionally, binary and ternary combinations of six chemicals (Cis-3-hexenyl acetate, decanal, (+)-α-pinene, linalool, tetracosane, and heneicosane) at concentrations of 1 and 10 ng/µL also elicited attraction in the parasitoid.
