Estimating the Impact of a Star Scientist move on their own Research Productivity

This dataset contains the replication package for the manuscript “Estimating the Impact of a Star Scientist Move on Their Own Research Productivity.” The study examines how the relocation of star scientists is associated with changes in their subsequent research productivity. The package includes the analysis code and documentation required to reproduce the main empirical results, including the event-study estimates, pre-move trend tests, post-move joint tests, tables, and figures reported in the manuscript.

The empirical analysis compares productivity trajectories of star scientists who move institutions with those of comparable star scientists who do not move. Research productivity is measured using publication- and/or citation-based outcomes as described in the manuscript. The data were compiled and processed for the purposes of this study, and the accompanying code documents the construction of analysis variables, treatment timing, event-time indicators, and regression outputs.

Users should begin with the README file, which describes the folder structure, software requirements, and order in which the replication scripts should be run. The underlying raw data are not redistributed where access restrictions apply; however, the package provides replication code, documentation, variable descriptions, and instructions for reconstructing the analysis dataset where permitted.
