VPRS 1118 Outward Registered Correspondence

This series consists of mainly letter-press books containing the outward correspondence of the agencies concerned with the construction of roads and bridges. The volumes were commenced by the Central Roads Board in 1857 (VA 2803) and continued by the Department of Roads and Bridges (VA 2964), the Department of Railways and Roads (VA 2875) and the Department of Public Works (Roads and Bridges Branch 1877 1888 and Local Government Branch c1888 1956). The main responsibility was removed from VA 669 Public Works Department with the establishment of the Country Roads Board (VA 722) in 1913.It is apparent that the record series passed directly from one agency to the next as responsibility was transferred from one to the other.
