Data for Multi-Timescale Evaluation of ERA5 Reanalysis and CCMP Merged Wind Products over the Bohai Sea, China

These data presents an evaluation of the ERA5 reanalysis and CCMP blended wind products over the Bohai Sea from 1981 to 2024, based on in-situ observations from onshore (1981-2023) and offshore (2016-2024) stations at an hourly temporal resolution. These data were aggregated separately for onshore and offshore stations. Based on these aggregated data, the study illustrates the multi-decadal and interannual wind speed trends averaged between onshore and offshore regions. Furthermore, the data were temporally consolidated into monthly and hourly composites to reveal the seasonal and diurnal variations in wind speed and direction errors for both products. Additionally, the biases in maximum wind speed and corresponding wind direction during typhoon events were examined.
