Whole-genome sequencing of bacteria associated with Pinus radiata

Essential to the Pine-Root-Microbiome programme is using next generation sequencing of DNA extracted from rhizosphere and soil samples to understand the community of microbial life in these compartments. Forest soils are understudied and contain few representative cultured species with sequenced genomes. This makes identification of forest microbes difficult. An obvious path forward is increasing the representation of forest soil microorganism genomes in the international databases. In this study we are submitting genome sequences of two bacterial species that were isolated from Pinus radiata forests as a demonstration of the approach we will undertake in the future.
