16S rRNA sequences from Chapada das Mesas National Park

Maranhao is a unique state for being an ecotone of three Brazilian biomes, among which we can highlight the Cerrado, which is considered one of the hotspots for environmental preservation. The Chapada das Mesas National Park (PARNACM) is located in southwestern Maranhao, between the municipalities of Carolina, Estreito and Riachao and, despite its ecological, hydrological and touristic importance, few projects have been carried out in the region to study its microbiological biodiversity.In this sense, we want to characterize the structure of microbial communities representing the Chapada das Mesas National Park, with emphasis on the phylum Cyanobacteria and demonstrate the importance of combining dependent and independent cultivation techniques in studies involving groups such as photosynthetic microorganisms.
