The Fit4CAD dataset was developed by the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Information Technologies of the National Research Council of Italy. It contains 225 high-quality point clouds, each obtained by sampling CAD objects. The dataset is designed to evaluate and compare methods for fitting simple geometric primitives to point clouds, with particular focus on geometric shapes including planes, cylinders, cones, spheres, and tori. It has been split into training and test sets to facilitate the utilization of machine learning methods. This dataset supports a wide range of geometric primitive recognition algorithms, aiming to address the issue of digital model reconstruction in reverse engineering and promote research in fields such as shape retrieval, shape understanding, and compression.
