Barro Colorado Island 50 ha Plot

Barro Colorado Island (BCI) has been the focus of intensive research on lowland tropical moist forest since 1923, and its flora is better known than any site of comparable size throughout the world. The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and Princeton University established the first Forest Dynamics Plot at BCI in 1980, as part of its comprehensive program of research in tropical forest biology, which includes plant physiology, canopy biology, and animal ecology. 巴罗科罗拉多岛（Barro Colorado Island, BCI）自1923年起便成为低地湿润热带森林领域深入系统研究的核心站点，其植物区系的认知完备程度位居全球同规模研究站点之首。史密森尼热带研究所与普林斯顿大学于1980年在BCI建立了首个森林动态样地（Forest Dynamics Plot），作为其热带森林生物学综合研究计划的组成部分，该计划涵盖植物生理学、冠层生物学与动物生态学等研究方向。目前，BCI样地数据、物种多度表、样地物种数据集与土壤图谱数据均已公开可用。
