Genome sequences of two bacterial species that degrade polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were determined. They are related species to the genera Rhodanobacter and Priestia. Homologous genes of enzymes involved in PVA degradation, such as PVA dehydrogenase and oxidized PVA hydrolase, were found in these species.
