Related variety, Unrelated variety, and Regional Development Trap in Turkey

I have calculated the regional development trap for two alternative measures, namely DT1 and DT2. Following Diemer et al. (2022), I first calculated compound growth rate of the three variables, namely GDP per capita, GVA per worker, and employment to population ratio, for region i and period t for five-year intervals. After that, the accelerations in the growth rates of the three variables are calculated. I than assign dummy variables for each acceleration and for each of the variables. Thus, nine dummy variables were defined. These dummies take the value of zero if the acceleration is negative, and one otherwise. The regional development trap, DT1, is calculated as the average of these nine dummy variables. As for DT2, each acceleration is used instead of dummy variables. The resulting index is then standardized across the entire period using the mean and standard deviation of the initial year.
