The study used single-cell multi-omics analysis to investigate the dynamic immune responses in hospitalized COVID-19 patients with stable or progressive disease courses. The findings reveal a dyssynchrony between the innate and adaptive immune systems in progressive COVID-19, characterized by the presence of S100Ahi/HLA-DRlo classical monocytes, activated LAG-3hi T cells, skewed T cell receptor repertoires, and abnormal MHC-II/LAG-3 interactions between myeloid and T cells.
