Digital Data from an Archaeological Evaluation south of Blackthorn Road, Ambrosden, Oxfordshire 2022

This collection comprises images and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation undertaken by Costwold Archaeology on land south of Blackthorn Road, Ambrosden, Oxfordshire, in July 2022. A total of 27 trenches were excavated.
A single flint flake, of broad prehistoric date, was recovered from the ploughsoil within a trench excavated in the north-eastern part of the site.
Two distinct phases of medieval and/or post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation were identified within the site.
A small number of undated ditches/gullies, possibly indicative of drainage works undertaken immediately in advance of the creation of this open field system, were also revealed in the north-western part of the site.
A pit of indeterminate function, containing pottery and Ceramic Building Material of 17th to 18th-century date, was identified in the south-western part of the site. A further, albeit undated, pit was identified within the north-western part of the site.
