Grapevine-associated microbial communities are diverse and critical drivers of plant health as well as grape and wine quality. However, it is unknown whether the application of cover crops, a common vineyard floor management practice, may alter the existing pool of microbial communities on grapevine compartments such as leaves and grapes. To investigate this, the fungal and bacterial communities in Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard blocks were examined over two consecutive vintages (2018/2019 and 2019/2020) in three geographically distinct vineyards in which the same floor management strategies were implemented. Soil, grapevine leaf, and fresh grape must samples were collected from vineyard rows that had been treated with natural vegetation, Vicia faba (faba bean, legume), and x Triticosecale (triticale, grain). rRNA gene amplicon sequencing was used to identify the microbial taxa at the genus level.
