Data comes from the annual Business Register and Employment Survey, published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The survey covers a sample of approximately 80,000 businesses and is weighted to represent the economy, covering all sectors. The data represents employees based on location of their work. To ensure confidentiality the ONS apply different rounding rules to the data, depending on the size and nature of the estimates.
