FIELD: technological processes. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and equipment for lumber processing， in particular， to methods and systems for determination of availability of lumber defects. System for determination of lumber defects includes two rows of video cameras located on different sides of lumber conveyor， three rows of pulsed light sources， synchronizing device connected to video cameras and pulsed light sources and providing synchronization of operation of video cameras and pulse light sources， and image processing device， which receives images from video cameras and performs processing of lumber images. Synchronizing device is designed so that video cameras， when receiving synchronizing signals， capture images of lumber in four different lighting modes using alternate activation of pulsed light sources. Image processing involves recognition of lumber defects boundaries on images. EFFECT: technical result is high accuracy of determining defects of lumber， having pronounced 3D shapes. 7 cl， 6 dwg
