Compendium of Latent Variable Measures

This compendium presents examples of published scales that measure latent variables. While many of these investigations have been conducted in non-recreational angling contexts, their items can be adapted to align with the specific style of angling participation. The scales identified below are listed not because they are necessarily the “gold standard”. Rather, beyond displaying acceptable validity and reliability, they exemplify some of the heterogeneity that exists for measuring like constructs. This heterogeneity emerges from the heterogeneity in theoretical orientations. All fall within the cognitive hierarchy (Fulton et al., 1996; Kyle & Landon, 2023) which provides some insight on their relationship to one another and their influence on human behavior.
