资源简介:
BIRUG21113, initially known as '*Pterocera' scorpius* has been subsequently found to be synonymous with the genus *Lambis* (Röding, 1798), hence the recombination *Lambis scorpius*. The name of this gastropod comes from the scorpion-like appearance of its shell. This species of snail is most often collected and sold as a souvenir due to its interesting appearance.
Typically, these snails grow to about 13cm, but can be found up to 20cm long. Coloration can be quite variable, usually sporting whites, browns, oranges, and yellows with many different patterns. Shells can also possess between 7 and 9 appendages.
This specimen was collected from the Moluccas by Sowerby in 1883 and given to the Museum in 1916 by Sir George H. Holcroft. Scanning was performed by Sian Miller using an Artec Spider 3D scanner; description by Jonathan Kimel.
