Shallow firn core drilling, firn air sampling and borehole temperature measurement at NDFN (JARE60)

Shallow core drilling was conducted at NDFN, located 50 km south from Dome Fuji station. A 142-m-long core was drilled from 14 to 29 December 2018. The drilled core was cut every 0.5 m due to packing. We recorded weight, length and physical condition of cores in a core log. After the drilling, firn air sampling was conducted at 25 points at a depth of 100m in borehole 100 m from surface. Borehole temperature was recorded at depth of 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140 m on 30 December. Temperature at 10 m depth is -56.2 degC.
