Here, we present the dataset associated with the article “Winter leaf reddening and photoprotection accessed by vegetation indices and its influence on canopy light-use efficiency of a Japanese cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) forest” submitted to “New Phytologist” by the same authors. The data are the environmental factor (photosynthetically active radiation and air temperatures), canopy-scale light-use efficiency and gross primary production, and vegetation indices (RGVI, PRI, and RI) recorded in Kiryu Experimental Watershed(KEW, Asiaflux registered site) from June 2017 to May 2021
