Helicobacter pylori HPAG1. This strain was isolated from a Swedish patient with chronic atrophic gastritis, the precursor to gastric adenocarcinoma. Since Helicobacter pylori is associated with gastric cancer, sequencing the genome of this clinical isolate, and comparing it to the two other sequenced type strains (J99 and 26695, both recovered from patients with acid peptic disease) should provide new insights about microbial factors that may contribute to tumorigenesis.
