Tiny chlorophytes, thought to include descendants of the earliest diverging green algae. Pedinomonas minor

Pedinomonas are tiny chlorophytes less than 10 mkm in length. They possess a laterally inserted flagellum. It is thought to include descendants of first primitive chlorophytes. The mitochondrial genome of Pedinomonas minor has been sequenced. It is a small, circular, 25,137-bp genome containing 22 genes. In gene content and rate of sequence divergence P. minor mtDNA resembles the reduced mtDNAs of chlamydomonad algae.
