Comparison of pollinator communities in neighborhoods with traditional turf-dominated residential landscape versus native-plant dominated turf-free landscapes

The data files included here include the raw and summary data from a project focused on a neighborhood comparison of pollinator communities associated with both native-based landscape designs and conventional landscape designs in Florida, USA. The neighborhoods were built from 2018 to 2022. The conventionally landscaped neighborhood, Del Webb, included turf grass and mostly non-native plants. The native-based neighborhood, Weslyn Park, lacked turf grass and utilized mostly native plants in its design. The files include a readme file that contains metadeta with information about the column headings in the data files. The "DW" notation for the file names is shorthand for "Del Webb," and “WP” is short for “Weslyn Park.” The data files labelled with “neighborhood" in the title include yard level data of pollinator and abundance and diversity, flower abundance, and pollinator-flower associations collected during the spring, summer and fall of 2023. The data files labelled with “phytometer" in the title include date from a phytometer experiment in which four different species of potted plants were placed in yards and used to measure short-term response of pollinators to the introduced plants. The R script used for data analysis and graphing of data are included in a separate file.
