Lignocellulosic biomass is a low-cost, largely available substrate with potential near-zero CO2 emissions in life-cycle analysis. Sugiyamaella (Candida) lignohabitans is a microbial cell factory able to grow on lignocellulosic hydrolysates, converting glucose and xylose in value-added chemicals, which are key features for an economically feasible biorefinery. To fully exploit the potential of this strain, setting the fundamentals for its future development, the genome of S. lignohabitans was sequenced and annotated.
