We proceeded to annotate the minicircles for all <i>T. b. gambiense </i>type I isolates. Pooling minicircles present in 111 type I isolates and clustering the sequences at 95% SID threshold yielded 195 unique classes, which we annotated using the edited mRNAs predicted for the Mongo isolate, including the alternative versions of ND8, COX3, and A6. Guide RNAs that were predicted to code for alternative versions of the same mRNA (such as the ND8_v1 and ND8_v3 initiation gRNA) or even to target different mRNA species were counted only once, which gave 545 unique gRNAs that provided ≥ 93% coverage on all mRNAs
