In this dataset the high resolution images of the microstructural analysis and the frictional strength, frictional healing and the rate and state parameters are reported. The data refer to a comprehensive study with 34 frictional experiments on fault gouges composed of three representative mineral phase:muscovite (platy phyllosilicate), quartz (granular silicate) and calcite (granular carbonate), known for their markedly distinct frictional properties.
