Lisbon metropolitan area 1940-1965-1992-2001 - Thematic Chartography

The thematic cartography sets on three occasions: (1) 2004-05, under the remit of La Explosión de la Ciudad research project; (2) 2009, as a contribution to results of the research project Dinâmicas de Localização, transformação do território e novas centralidades na AML: Que papel para as Políticas Públicas?; (3)2020-22 the information was prepared, to make the database available for a broader audience in the scientific community. 

The dataset consists of the building footprints in several time windows. At the first moment, the collection (1), correction (2) and improvement of thematic cartography (3) about the forms of urbanisation that shaped the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. The cartography dataset offers the possibility to understand the progress of urbanisation, locally or at the metropolitan level, as well as to develop and integrate analysis with other datasets, notably statistics.

Although collaboration mainly occurred in (1), the authors persisted in a route of consistency for almost 20 years, finally allowing the document to be shareable, albeit under certain conditions.

The roles are as follows: Sofia Morgado - coordination and concept, methodology and collection of cartography. Pedro George as well up to 2009; Júlio Almeida - methodology, GIS and Data analysis and revisions - gracious and professional contribution, pivotal from the work's inception.

As with most of these works, there are limitations. However, we see this set as a life-long legacy, coming from times when this type of information had to be produced by teams, as it was unavailable by the beginning of the 21st century.
