The purpose of this study is to isolate methanotrophic microbes from methane-rich freshwater lakes into pure cultures, study their metabolism in hypoxic conditions and sequence and functionally annotate their draft genomes. The data provides fundamental knowledge of functional potential of methanotrophs mitigating methane emissions from natural freshwater ecosystems and insights into their biotechnological applicability.
