REVEALING THE HIGH VELOCITY OUTFLOW IN PG 1211+143

We propose a 150 ksec ACISS/LETGS observation of the prototype Big Blue Bumpquasar, PG 1211+143. In our recent XMMNewton observation, we found evidence forone of the most extreme Xray outflows yet observed in an AGN. Indeed theoutflow velocity (0.1c) and kinetic output are similar to that seen in the mostpowerful BAL quasars. We will utilize the high spectral resolution, bandpass andsensitivity of the ACISS/LETGS combination to measure the outflow velocities ofthe highly ionized absorption lines of N, O, Ne, Mg, Si, and S in the soft Xrayband, to fully understand the dynamics of this extraordinary outflow. We also request a simultaneous, 50 ksec XMMNewton observation to detect the blueshifted Fe XXV and Fe XXVI Kshell lines, with the EPIC detectors above 6 keV. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
