Indonesian Susenas 2007, Death

The Indonesia Social and Economic Survey (Susenas) is a nationwide survey conducted to collect information on social and economics indices. It serves as a main source of monitoring social and economic progress in society. Susenas has been conducted on an annual basis since 1963. Since 1992, in addition to a basic social and economic questionnaire (core), a more focused questionnaire was introduced (module). The core questionnaire covers basic information about household and individual characteristics including health, death, education/literacy, employment, fertility and family planning, housing, and household expenditure. This questionnaire is asked annually with only slight modifications over the years. Susenas 2007 core covered 285,186 households and was designed to be representative up to district/municipality levels. The module is intended to gather more detailed information on specific topics, especially on data that changes less frequently than a year. There are three modules of Susenas and each module is added in a three-year cycle. In 2007, the module's topic was housing, and covered 68,640 households. (Please note that the Susenas 2007 did not include a health module. A separate Basic Health Survey or Riset Kesehatan Dasar (Riskesdas) 2007 was conducted instead by the Ministry of Health.) Both core questionnaire (Susenas Core) and module questionnaires (Susenas Module) contain data on household and individual characteristics. In the archive, the data are stored in three main files which contain: information on household characteristics gathered both from core and module questionnaires (Study ID 01147); individual characteristics gathered both from core and module questionnaires (Study ID 01146); and information on cases of death gathered from core questionnaires (Study ID 01145). This file (Study ID 01145) contains information on cases of death in the household. The data is taken from Block IV.B of the core household questionnaire (VSEN2007.K form). Variables include the list number of deceased members of the household, year that death occurred, age, sex and whether the death was related to traffic accidents or pregnancy/giving birth.
